The bodegas Marta Maté are located in Tubilla del Lago, a southern village in the province of Burgos. The wines produced by these bodegas are part of the DO Ribera del Duero.
The name of this medieval village derives from the word “toba” meaning the white stone which is typically seen in the soil of the area. This village, has a long tradition of viticulture and there are still many underground cellars preserved beneath the streets.
Píxide is a young wine noted for its deep color and purple glints. It comes from the younger vineyards located in Tubilla del Lago, on clay-limestone soil at over 850 meters altitude. Aged 6 months in 1-2 years old oak barrels (90% French and 10% American).
This is a very intense aromatic wine on the nose, with aromas of fresh mature red fruits, vibrant licorice and balsamic herbs with floral hints. In the mouth this is an easy drinking fresh wine, medium bodied, fruity, excellent acidity, wrapped in spicy notes from the aging in oak. This can accompany dishes of white meat or snacks with creamy cheese and sausage.
