Masciarelli wines, the symbole of the green region of Europe

Abruzzo boasts the title of “Green Region of Europe” it has a unique nature in the world and viticulture has succeeded in modernizing and offering high-quality products.

The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC title was created in 1968, and covers a vast area of eastern Abruzzo. It spans all 120km of Abruzzo’s coastline and spreads inland for roughly 32km. Much of western Abruzzo is too mountainous for effective viticulture, so most Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wines come from the low hills, plains and coastal areas.

In the late 20th and early 21st century, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine earned a reputation as being one of the most widely exported DOC classed in Italy.

The Montepulciano grape is the 2nd most planted red grape in Italy (after Sangiovese) and has had a reputation for low-priced juicy “pizza-friendly” red wines. Fortunately, there are several producers in Abruzzo that have shown the amazing potential of this grape by producing inky, black-fruit driven, chocolatey wines best enjoyed after 4 or more years of aging

MASCIARELLI Tenute Agricole was established in 1981 from the entrepreneurial intuition of Gianni Masciarelli, a symbol of Italian wine and protagonist of the success of modern wine production in Abruzzo. The beating heart of the winery is in San Martino sulla Marrucina, in the province of Chieti, and includes vineyards and olive groves, in all 4 provinces of Abruzzo.

Trebbiano and Montepulciano, two grapes once unknown and little considered, are now two stars of the firmament of Italian wine. Masciarelli Tenute Agricole produces 5 wine lines, and we can fin some of this products in Quebec.
The Linea Classica is the first line created by Gianni Masciarelli and has become over the years a landmark for the company and its customers. Its wines, Montepulciano D’Abruzzo DOC, Trebbiano D’Abruzzo DOC, and Rosato IGT Colline Teatine are today “a classic”.
