🌍 Morgon, Beaujolais, France
🍇 Gamay 100%
Coming from a small family business, this wine from a place named “La Chaponne” unveils all the charm of the Côte du Py “climat”, a hillside vineyard located on its side. Laurent Guillet is a rising star in the Beaujolais. Now that he has his father’s old vines in the Côte de Py the results are stunning. He is also making delicious Chiroubles from his wife’s family vineyard.
The Morgon is from 50-60-year-old vines. Fermentation is in a mixture of steel and cement vats with 8 months aging in both vats and foudre (1000+ liter barrels). Although wines from Côte du Py are usually rather powerful, this one is very supple and accessible, fragrant, and packed with bright soft cherry fruit that drinks well young or equally matures impressively in the medium term.
