The origins of Bodegas y Viñedos GÓMEZ CRUZADO date back to 1886, when Ángel Gómez de Arteche, a nobleman related to the Duke of Moctezuma de Tultengo, decided to start making and bottling his own wine in Haro, in the heart of Rioja Alta. Thus, a century-old cellar was born which would go on to make history in Haro and Rioja during the late 19th century.
At present GÓMEZ CRUZADO is run by the leadership team of David González and Juan Antonio Leza, two young Riojan winemakers and viticulture technicians with over a decade of experience as consultants for significant projects in different regions. David and Juan Antonio have been advising the company since 2008 and today it is their primary passion.
🌍 Haro, Rioja, Spain
🍇 80% Tempranillo from vineyards in the foothills of the Cantabria range and in the low course of the Najerilla river (Uruñuela, Torremontalbo) and 20% Garnacha from the high Najerilla (Badarán).
3 days of pre-fermentative maceration at low temperature, with daily remontages and delestages during its temperature controlled fermentation. Followed by fermentation in cone-shaped temperature controlled stainless steel vats.12 months in mostly new American oak barriques.
👀 Cherry red with a medium layer.
👃Notes of freshly crushed grapes, raspberry, the red strawberry fruit of the Garnacha with lactic and toasted notes that result in a fresh and fruit drove wine.
👄 Good body, gentle in the palate, with silky tannins and a good acidity that pushes its freshness. Long, red fruit wrapped, aftertaste.
